Proud Mamma Moment...

There are many first's in a child's life. First steps, first word,
but nothing touched my heart quite as much as capturing THIS
first on film. My heart is practically bursting with pride right now.

I call this one "Baby's First Diet Coke"
or, I just upgraded my ticket to FIRST CLASS bad parent jail.

I am not sure which is worse, the fact that he drank it or the fact that I wasn't too bothered by it. Lauren could say "brown juice" by this age. In fact, the way we realized that she could drink out of a straw was when I found her squatting over my Baja Fresh cup (the same black and white checked cup that had mezmerized her as a baby...she had no chance, really). She was sucking up that "brown juice" as fast as her little cheeks would let her. To be fair, Jacob is much more obsessed with ice (not unlike his mamma) then he is with the soda. The soda is an added, sugar filled, caffeine loaded, sodium fortified bonus. Notice how he there is no hesitation or tentative sips..it is like Diet Coke shots for him. Once I left a cup of soda in reaching distance and he had that thing back so fast......it took a few seconds for him to realize that he covered in Diet Coke. His clothes, his hair, my couch...everywhere but his mouth. Poor novice. He will learn.
Before my mom has a heart attack, this was at Disneyland while the kids were running in the sprinklers. I don't regularly feed my child soda. Just at Disneyland, and the grocery store, in the car and occasionally in church........Breathe Mom. I am kidding.

Or am I?

Can't you almost see him thinking..."whaaaaa?"

"There must be more in here...there has to be....."

Welcome to my world, little addict!

I have a theory that those eyelashes are going to get him out of a LOT of trouble. He is going to need them.

Bek-

Could be worse. I've seen parents fill baby bottles with Coke...on a daily basis.

He is so squeezable. Send me an email so I can let you know next time I'm in the bay area... queenscarlett (at) gmail (dot) com.

One of my girlfriends is totally addicted to Diet Coke... drank it all through her second pregnancy and her little one is hilarious about wanting that stuff.

Entertaining. ;-)

I love it when my kids run around the house with cans of Diet Pepsi. I think it is so cute. I usually leave the last little bit in there so they get a little taste as they tilt their head backs to get every last drop. Adorable! You're my kind of mom! :)

He is too cute. and addiction is a great vice to have. He has a whole lifetime to break the habit then. None of this teenage addictions for me!! :)

More Caffiene, Please said...

CJ is *smart* enough to point to the Diet Pepsi in the fridge and say "mommy's drink" and to the Wild Cherry Pepsi, "daddy's drink." Sad, really.

This is totally off topic, Bek, but I was noticing how great his skin looks. What kind of lotion do you use on him? It's so hard for me to keep Caleb from looking ashy...we've tried Vaseline and Eucerin (which both work for most of the day but then we have to reapply it again---lotioning a 3 yr. old maniac two times a day isn't really an option).

Hi Christy,

We fight the ashy battle everyday. I think that it helps that we live in a part of the country where we RARELY turn on the heat. The minute I do..ashy city.

I have found that it is best to use an oil w/ JJ's skin. I usually use Johnson's non greasy oil, but I have heard other mamma's say that it doesn't work for their kids. I also use Nivea or Fishermans Friend....really heavy stuff. He has pretty good skin and only gets dry patches on his feet and hands. Lately I have been using an oil that I dug out of the back of my cupboard (I ran out of Johnsons) and it is a regular bath and body oil from a line called Spalicious (Target). It is macademia nut flavor and it makes him smell like a warm cookie!!! :-) I think that most of it is the fact that it isn't dry here and he just has pretty good skin to start with. We do reapply lotion in the evenings after bath...so I do lather him up 2x a day.

Frog might have a different kind of skin. Have you gone to adoption.com? They have a section in the forums (under adoptive parents, then go uneder transcultural / transracial adoption) where people put their list of good stuff. Won't it be nice when they can do their own lotion?? How is his therapy going?

When my (now 19) nephew was probably 2 or 3, he was looking into my sister's fridge. He sighed dramatically and said, "I weeally need a diet Pespi."

You little guy is beautiful! Great pictures.

Bek-thanks for the suggestions! I guess I'm going to have to live with my ashy maniac unless I can get him to be still 2x a day. I have some oil around here somewhere. Maybe I'll try that. His first actual therapy session was today and it went well. It's giving me hope! Plus, he gets to go to preschool 5 days a week (FREE!) and I'm sure that will help loads.

I have heard other moms that make getting lotion worthy of a "point" or good behavior point. The same with little girls sitting still to get their hair done, or brushed out. Maybe at some point, you can work that into his routine....he is still pretty small.

Yeah for preschool!!!!1
