A few samples...

These are a few of the pictures
I have taken so far from people
who signed up for the fundraiser
photoshoots. I love shooting kids!
I did 4 sessions at the beach today
so I will have some good ones from that, too.

Can I have that little girl 6th down? I need her to kiss her delicious cheeks!!! (Tell the mom that I am not a creepy stalker.)

That is a cute little Korean family. The girls names are Kelsey and Kinsey.....so very Korean, no?

The hard part about that shoot is the the girls spoke no English (so my silly banter didn't work) and they were very shy. Getting any smiles at all was victory!

I need to do the Jooj. Are we still on?

Get out of town!
I'm so excited to get some good kid photos. I guess I should go get their hair cut or something. . . at least wipe the pb&j off their face.
SOOOOO excited to see you!

Wait a minute! How're you seeing la yen? What the... Are you going to el Paso for the sesquesentenial thingy or are you coming to Utah when she's here or what? I want to hang out with you too! Let's talk cameras! I took some more maternity pics yesterday but had an issue with my flash card and couldn't keep shooting. Got descent pics though. I like the kid pics... would suggest (because that's what I do, ask la yen & phread, I'm kinda bossy) using your f-stop to blur out the background. I LOVE the pageboy hat on that little fella!

We might have to work out a meeting somewhere between you and me. We definitely need a new family portrait! Got any location suggestions?

I'm usually just a silent reader..hope you don't mind...but what great pictures! I wish you were in Southern California- especially after my trauma in trying to get pictures of my newly turned two-year-old. Ugh. Photography is definitely a talent I wish I possessed.

Hi Kristib...I know you..the person that asked about the tie..right? (Did you see the Childrens' Place ties? 6$$)
Glad you commmented...my family all reads this too but they NEVER comment. I am going to start insulting them to see if they are still reading!!

Lucky for you my husband is obsessed with Disneyland and we go to LA about 2x a year. Plus my good friend moved to Valencia about a year ago.....it can be arranged!!!! :-)

Today I shot a group of 6 kids. It was a "grandkids" photo. The two year old's (there were two) cried or ran away. That is just how it is w/ two year olds. When my daughter was two, I tried to take pictures of her for fathers day. I have never been more angry with her in my life. She picked her nose, threw tantrums...etc. I got NOT ONE picture. I say skip two and try again when they are three!! :-) The same things happened when I took her to the pumpkin patch (the same one we go to every year). There aren't many pix of Lu whne she was two....Cubbo is just getting into that phase...

Anna..where are you again? Central Valley? We can meet up for sure....I want to meet you anyway...

Those pictures toward the end have the effect I meant... getting the background blurred out so your subject stands out easier. Having the background so far away is a fast way of getting your camera to cooperate with focus.

Ah hah....

That is the effect that I am usally going for....but I don't always achieve it. That is why I need a class so that I can learn how to do it every time. Also, the first pictures, the families only wanted to shoot in their yards. I couldn't talk them into going to a park, etc..plus it was very sunny.........not the best combo. My camera tends to overcompensate....

I used my FIL's camera yesterday..it is the brand new Cannon Rebel with a wide angle 18-200 lens. HEAVEN! Mine is an old Cannon (2003) digital and it is time to upgrade. The newer ones are much more sensitive and have the bugs worked out. I have my old trusty Minolta that is my film camera that I LOVE, but for the purposes of the fundraiser, I only wanted digital (no cost) When I have shoots that are paying me actual money, I do the film camera. I need to invest in a new one. I can't wait to see your Nikkon. Are those lenses compatable with Minolta or Cannon? I have several Tamarind lenses and flashes that work on Minolta and Cannon...I need to stick with that family. :-)

We can totally talk shop when you're here (email me back on the details; I asked Phread to coordinate a group get-together). With the f-stop, you don't see the effect through the viewfinder. You have to take the shot and then look at it on your screen. As for focusing & f-stop there is something to be said for moving the camera closer/farther to get the right effect (as opposed to focusing with the lens). I have the Nikkor 18-200 that, supposedly, shoots like a 300 but I haven't noticed. I used a Sigma 70-300 that I liked but noticed it wasn't as fast/sharp as my Nikkor.

Yep- that was me and I have since bought ties at The Children's Place and Nordstrom- so thanks! Anyway- it's good to know I'm not the only one with the slightly uncooperative two-year-old. Sigh...

I think if you escape picture time without anyone spitting, bleeding or throwing up...it is a victory.

I will post one of the shots for you so you can feel better.

Sewfunny....I worship at the altar of your camera smarts...I know NOTHING unless it is by accident. :-)

LuckyRedHen said...

When you worship at the alter of camera smarts, it is customary to bring offerings of large bills of American currency as to not tick off the gods.

Bek said...

ah sooo.......

I just so happen to have a 1 billion dollar bill that I have been saving for the right occasion

LuckyRedHen said...

That will do.

You must deliver in person, or the wrath that shall befall you...

;o)

LOVE The beach shots. You should go to Oahu - North Shore the first week of May... so we can get pictures taken by you. There are some good deals on condos in Turtle Bay... ;-) Wanna come? ;-)

One of my favaorite things about imsewfunny is that she is really really really cheap (returning $2 dead goldfish), unless she wants something specific--then she will research and compare and learn everything about the item until she finds the absolute best one, and will stop at nothing to get it. I don't read consumer reports, I just ask her. If she says you need an F stop and a doo-hickey, then you do.
You tell us where to get pictured and we will go. Maybe we can get some with phread's kids. They are cousins, you know. (Rae declared it, so it is so.)

Also, the best, most Koren name ever is Sunny. If you ever hear of a girl named Sunny, there is a 99.99999% chance that she is Korean. (same as with boys named Ken--almost always Japanese.) I don't know why this is, probably the same way almost all girls named McKenna are Mormon?
