Happy Valentines Day!
What are you doing? What did you do? Do you have traditions for this holiday? I am trying to turn this into a fun day for the whole family. I have been scouring the internet to find some fun ideas. A few of the ones that appeal to me are to have a fun breakfast (but I am not a morning person so we will have breakfast for dinner), make a pillow to put love notes in (for the kids too...) or decorate the door of the kids. I love these ideas. I would love to hear your ideas.
I am going to put fun hearts on the doors of the kids bedrooms and for dinner we are having heart shaped pancakes, ham (cut into heart shapes), strawberries, and any other red stuff that I can find. The kids each get a small trinket (very small). Derek is in Europe, so I don't have to worry about him, but we put special notes in his suitcase (and Lauren made penguins for him and for her Aunt Kate that lives in London--Hi Kate!!).
Hope you all had a happy day!!

Wow, your husband travels a lot. What does he do?
Lovely blog... Hugs
Happy Valentine's Day from Lisa Valentine Clark!!!
We did the heart-shaped pancakes with cream and strawberry syrup and all that and they got a Valentine's shirt (short sleeved red Wal-Mart t's for the boys and cute ones for the less-picky little ones) and a box of conversation hearts to eat and a box to give away.
Aren't the Valentine-Clarks DARLING?!
Hmm, no traditions here. We sent out valentines to all the cousins last week (I was trying to do some good mail). Tonight Dave is taking Maddy to a daddy daughter dance with a friend and his daughter. They did this last year too. Jordan and I had a big date to McDonalds - lol!! We ate it on the floor in front of the TV watching the Valentines Day Backyardigans. I like the pancake idea though. I'll bet Kristi (the pink christmas girl) has some cute ideas. Happy Valentines Day!!
In the constant fear my kids will not get enough sugar I scavenged up the last of the bags of good chocolate candy (something different for everyone) and tied a cute Valentine helium ballon to it and left work early to set one out for each of my children and for my husband (he gets the European chocolate) on their respective beds.
Oh, and I frosted and decorated over six dozen heart-shaped sugar cookies and shared them with people I love.
Sorry your husband's away, but I hope you had a nice day anyway.
Wow, you guys are creative. That is great.
We ended up having heart shaped french toast for dinner...long day, long story. I am feeling flu-y and achey. I am counting the seconds till I can put the kiddo's in bed...then me.
I just send it out to the love gods that these children SLEEP tonight. Or, that I sleep hard enough not to hear them. ;-)
Ugh. Sick with no hubby home. I really hope you get the rest you need.
We did fondue for dinner, it was a blast! Very messy, though, as the kids were full participants.
Another person I did fondue too. I LOVE fondue and make it a lot so that might have to be my new "thing".
:-)
I'm late ringing in and I'm embarassed by mine... I make pink scrambled eggs with heart shaped toast and pink milk for breakfast. (Last year my son wouldn't eat it, but when I didn't make it this year he said "hey, where are my pink eggs?) We also made/decorated little mailboxes (from kits from the craft store) 2 weeks ago and we do the "14 days of Valentines" where we leave little notes, drawings and inexpensive goodies/candies for the 14 days leading up to Valentines. (I am really good at run-on sentences) Happy Valentines!
And I thought I made up the pink-heart-shaped pancakes all by myself this morning... :) I'm sorry you were alone on Valentines Day. Sounds like you made it very fun for the kids!
We have the tradition of an all pink dinner- Pink strawberry smoothie, delicious pink main dish, pink yogurt with starwberries on top and pink marshmellows! (the green beans are not pink!) The kids love it! It looks pretty gross and has a lot of artificial coloring but taste great!
Sweet! I got a shout out! Tell Lauren I loved her valentines to me. Especially the peguin!
Also, crazy to note, I found out my roommate is somehow related to Lisa V. Clark's family. How's that for a small world?
I got nuthin' except a card from each child they made at school. No big. Would rather get love throughout the year than just on 1 day.
Just checking in to see what you ended up doing for Valentine's Day?!
Our tradition is the same as lisa v. clark: we make red heart-shaped pancakes with strawberries and cream. We also made cookies to deliver to all of Haddie's friends. We also usually have a huge fondue dinner. If I'm not sick as a dog and can't drag myself out of bed, that is. :-)
Sorry you have been sick..that stinks.
V Day post coming up...

Thanks for the congratulations!
Yes, my whole family will travel there to get her, and we're all so excited!!!!
No traditions here - but we did have a lovely cookie party in the middle of the day. My two year old helped me whip up a batch of cookies and then we sat around the table with my husband talking about why we love each other over cookies and milk for our special "love party."
