Happy Monday to you too......

This is our new 8 year old. I love how all the pictures after 2nd grade have awesome snaggle tooth smiles. We took some pictures on the day of Lauren's baptism. She wanted to do a "model" shoot, so we have lots of pictures that SHE loves, but not exactly the kind that we put on the mantle. I can't wait to show them to her when she is about....16.
We had our first autumn meal today. Baked potato soup and homemade bread (don't get too excited, I still stink at bread, this was the box mix..but it worked!) On Monday's Lu comes to the grocery store with me and helps me to do the weekly shopping. She gets to decide what we have for dinner and helps me make it and usually the dessert. She made pumpkin pie tonight. Everyone hated it. Strike pumpkin pie from the Thanksgiving table for the next 25 years (that just leaves more room for pecan...).

I have been listening to the soundtrack of Rent these days. How did I miss this the first time around? I am not embarrassed to say that I LOVE show tunes. Hand me a soundtrack and I will learn it, sing it and teach it to my children (Lu had the entire Chicago soundtrack memorized by age 2). So, the summer of '08 is the summer of Rent. I think that the fall will be ..... hmmm.... Into the Woods........ my kids love that one...

My kids loved Annie so it was great to hear them at ages 3 and 4 singing "its a hard knock life". Mom has her hands full but they all still manage to be spoiled and well taken care of despite chaos. *laughs*

Yes, I found you, through Design Mom via Emily Spencer. How do you know her????We went to HS with her...small world. Anyway, I have gotten the low down from Lisa every now and then on your life, but now I will be a regular checker of your blog! If we come out that way to visit Darrin's sister, i will come visit you. Keep the musicals coming!p.s. your kids are adorable!

I don't know about the bread part but Bek's baked potato soup is heavenly!!

Showtunes and Bek have been together since she was in middle school. She was in Annie, West Side Story... and on and on. Because of her love of show tunes ALL of her siblings grew up listening to that kind of music. That was the music we listened to in our home. That influenced many of the activities the sibs did in high school...being in musicals. Fun to reflect on that and see the influence it still has today.

She's lovely and I stink at bread too. What's up w/ that?

p.s. Can I get the recipe for your soup?

We LOVE show tunes, too! It seriously is so funny how my Daisy is doing such similar things as Lauren. I don't know why this surprises me, but it does. Her teeth are equally interesting. I really should follow your lead and get her to help with the cooking/meal planning -- not my strong suit.

I think I missed Bek's influence on me singing Showtunes. I feel like I found them by myself...maybe. ABBA however, that was all Becca inspired!

I love Into the Woods. Anything Sondheim really, but I love love Into the Woods.

Cooking in the kitchen while blasting music is one of my favorite past times. It's been awhile since I've listened to Rent...I'll have to dig that up!

I love that soup recipe. I tried making it low fat once and it sucked. It's just no good unless it has a whole block of cheese grated into it.
I love that Lulu! Snaggle tooth grin and all.

Do we get to see any of the "model" pictures?

Oooh - we love your pecan pie recipe!! We make it every year for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Too bad about the pumpkin pie though. Have you tried the pumpkin chiffon pie recipe that Anne has? I think it is from Cindy Grames. You might want to give that at least one try before completely striking pumpkin from the list. Let me know and I'll email it to you.

If you're looking for other soundtrack suggestions, you might like Wicked. We went for our anniversary this year and are thinking we might dress Heather up as Elfeba for Halloween... :-) Into the Woods is great too. We saw that in NY last time it was playing, with Vanessa Williams as the witch. Very fun!

I don't have the pumpkin chiffon..but I need it. It is my KIDS that hated it. What is wrong with them?

I love that pecan pie recipe too..it has chocolate and coconut. Derek thinks that it has two ingredients too many... he is a purist, but I can't wait every year for it.

Heather as Elpheba would be awesome! I have never seen Wicked..this might be the year..
