Observations of a weekend..

--If I take Norah's hair out of the braids and then let her daddy play with it, she will end up looking like the love child of Napoleon Dynamite and Pedro.

--If I ever joke about not going to Urgent Care or calling Poison Control for more than a few days, I am just BEGGING the truffle pig to find poison oak, and to catch a virus that manifests itself by large, itchy pimples all over his whole body, but especially his face and legs which he will scratch until he is bloody.

Trips to the pharmacy so far since 9:00 pm last night -- 1
Trip to go before I will actually track down the FIVE medicines he needs -- 3

--Apparently Lauren is getting married. Again.

--Also, check out her toothless grin? I told her that if she looses both top teeth at the same time, she gets double from the tooth fairy. She is working that other tooth really hard and it looks like it might come out soon. She is totally motivated by money, but how else would she pay for all those weddings? Is she my kid or what?

--I have one week to pack up my entire downstairs for our big move. We are putting in new floors and a new kitchen. We will be moving in with my in laws for about a month. Fun for us, not so fun for them. Have you ever stayed at a very fancy hotel where you just KNEW that most things there are worth more than you and the rest will just give the kids new ways to end their life? Welcome to Grandma's house! Pictures to follow and expect a running total and photo diary of the things we break/destroy. I say the antique secretary or piano goes first, but I won't rule out anything to do with pool quite yet......

--When Cubby fell out of his bed before (several times a night) he would just sleep through it and slumber in a heap on the floor. Now, he gets himself back into bed, all without waking up. Sweet! Look at this face, pock marks and all.. is he getting more and more handsome or what?

I am off to pack... Any helpful hints?

I LOVE Norah's hair. Would you be attacked by the "women" if you just let it go like that all the time. Maybe wrap it in a sarong ala India Arie?
Lauren is going to have to be careful about all of those marriages. Or do you think she could possibly just be the wedding PLANNER?
Cubby is gorgeous! Pock marks and all. (I couldn't tell from the picture)
Good luck at the in-laws! Pack enough bubble wrap to wrap their entire house.

Or maybe you should just pack Cubby in bubble wrap? Make sure his arms are secured tightly at his sides before wrapping.

That is a better option I think... I already use the arm floatie things to put on his legs when he is in the high chair so he can't get out (more effective than ANY seatbelt so far...). He will just bounce off all the wonderful things.....

Nori's hair is cute no matter what! And I say that if Angelina Jolie doesn't have to do Zahara's hair all fancy, then you shouldn't have to either!

Time to break out baby jail again? Or come stay with us instead!!

Bek,

I'm nervous for you and the Expensive House of Fragility. Let us know!

That was nice of you to link to me. Thanks!

I am determined that our Norahs will meet and be friends, somehow, someday.

Baby Jail has has been bested...nothing can hold him... sigh.

Emily, we will be best friends someday and vacation with our daughters. I am sure of it because you are SO COOL!

Just ... good luck.

I am cracking up about Lauren's "weding." That is too funny!

How about staying longer at regular grandmas? The carpet hasn't been cleaned yet! Nothing breakable, toy heaven and a huge fenced yard(sigh...no pool). How do you plan to keep him out of the pool?

Another funny one, Bek. I am rolling on the floor over the tooth fairy money paying for the wedding and everything else.

Norah's hair is awesome.

Bek said...

Lindsey, the best part is that this is just my life, I am not even TRYING to be funny. I could do a post a day just on the notes that Lu gives me.....

annonymous, hi mom. We would but then Lu would miss school and they would send the police after us, and also I want you to still like my kids. I will, however, leave Cubby with you and return home with just the girls.... but remember what he did to your couch last time..... next time it will be the cat...

Is he riding on an alligator???

What cute kids!

I am howling at your post. I love in your comment that this is just your life, you're not even trying to be funny . . . I'm planning on spending a fun afternoon going through your side-bar sometime soon - I'm sure to find all kinds of things I'm gonna like.

Jacob has provided much blog fodder over the last year. Lu has said funny things and Norah's hair alone makes it worth keeping her around... :-)

hehehe. someone gave us a toddler size basketball hoop and zane broke it within a week.

you will love visiting us here- nothing to break, nothing on counters, etc. you are always welcome to visit!

Bek said...

Liz, I am coming. Really. I MUST go to H&M and this is the perfect excuse... really, I will plan it when we get back from getting Nori's Utah stuff done... :-)

Lauren cracks me up. How adorable is she? Weddings... ah girls... make me nervous. ;-) Norah's hair...and her lips gorgeous. Cubby... it looks like he's sitting on a frog?... he's so HANDSOME! He does resemble his mom like you said... and I'm dying to hear how it goes staying at the Ritz while everything's getting remodeled.

Love Child. Ha!

Wedding(s)...A polygamist at heart.

Moving...what a pain

Both of my little kids look like their mom. As in, exactly like their mom. Granted, we haven't seen dad, but still..

Lauren does NOT look like her mom (me) she looks like her dad. I totally missed out on having a mini me. That is ok.

Jacob IS sitting on a frog. They collect them and have frogs all over their yard. I will take more pictures of frogs when we move...

Good luck! ;-)

As you know, we are also about to embark on our own renovating experience. Luckily for us (and those who know us), we will just sleep on whatever floor is not being messed with.

Have fun!

(By the way, I look forward to remod pics!)

Thanks Wendy.... We thought about staying here, but we will not have water and electricity for most of it, and frankly, I would wrather wrestle the rattlesnake in a fancy, "break-y" house, then around large equiptment... also with the floors, we can't actually walk on them and since our other level has no exit besides over the deck or out the window...we had no choice.... but believe me... it was not an easy decision....

Norah's hair is the best!! Please send me info on your Africa projects. I visited Julie's Blog Rarly Home Mom and I would love to help! dustysantafe@ gmail dot com

thanks!

Norah has so much hair!!!!

Advice for packing: none. Just throw everything in boxes labeled "Will need immediately after the floors are done" and "May never need again." Pile everything in the basement with the "May never need again" boxes on the bottom. Chances are, you will only have to unpack half of what you packed!

And good luck living with the in-laws. Been there, done that, although it appears as if living with my own parents was the more problematic...

oh, and i almost forgot...we should chat about getting together the weekend we're both in the same town. it's kind of a crazy weekend because eric and i are volunteering for this theatre thing (leave it to us to spend our vacation working for the theatre!), so i've got to find a formal dress, but we should still chat. email me.

blast. just re-read your comment on my own blog. this particular sister lives in d.c., so that's where we'll be. someday our paths will cross, someday...

Your kids are absolutely beautiful! And I bet Lauren has that tooth out in no time - our daughter lost most of hers that way, creeped me out but she thought it was very cool. Have fun at Grandma's!

Oh man, this is going to require a full nanny day to catch up on your blog. This darn business takes some cahunas to blog. Your first two archived blogs scared me( that's good, or phat, or the bees kneez or whatever my kids will use on me now that they are starting to chat).
Thanks for making an earlier post on my site.
Later... armed with shiraz
Senja. p.s gorgeous family there (hate that)

I worried that I sounded preachy..I don't always come across the way I want to in print..

I LOVED your blog and seeing your sweet girls. I think that one of my Jacob is ALMOST like twins...ALMOST (not even close, really, but it feels like it..)

The archived stuff at the beginning is kind of deep and depressing (I started this blog in a dark place...)....

Glad you came by!

If we were doing serious renovating (like you are), we would also have to think about other living arrangements. Our biggest reno job will be finishing the basement, which will not affect our living arrangements (thankfully). Everything else will be simple--painting and putting new flooring in (one level at a time). I do not envy how your renovations will require tricky living arrangements. But, how nice that you have family to stay with. It will probably add to the adventure, eh?

Please keep us posted on how things go, and share lots of photos! :-)

Okay, I can totally relate to your paranoia (alright, I guess paranoia is more my feelings) about being in Grandma's nice house. The first visit to Katherine's new home stressed me out beyond belief. My children peed in one of the closets, took off all the blue tape on the walls they had marked for repainting and ran cars along the walls. I was relieved when they sold it and moved into their tear down.

In one month they are moving into their next new home and I'm picturing similiar situations. Eek!

Good luck with that one!

And please have your friend call anytime. I would be happy to help in any way I can.

Bek said...

Thanks Amy...

I love that your kids do that (so it isn't just mine?...) and I am sure that my MIL has a very similar style house as yours.....

I have been meaning to comment on this for the longest time. I just keep thinking of Lauren's wedding and laugh. She is getting so grown up. I say this like I actually know her or something, which I don't, but sharing stories over time makes me feel like I do know her and am so impressed at how she is growing up.

You've really got a great camera eye! I wish I could steal you for a few hours to get pictures of my girls. I get a good photo of them once a month despite the hundreds of photos I take.

Norah is quite a diva! I also love the wedding sign. My daughter is obsessed with weddings right now and is having a really hard time dealing with the fact that she can't marry me. Where do I even start with that one?

Loving your site! I'm browsing through some old posts. Your children are gorgeous. Can I come to the wedding? That is adorable!
