Self portrait..

Squeakey is on my lap talking. This is a new thing she does....she squeaks and squeals and sings and yells until she is ready to sleep. She started laughing today too. It is so fun, but also loud.

Mostly, I cannot believe how big she is. I still wear her in the sling most of the time. The other day as I walked past the bathroom mirror, I was struck by how small she still is. I also realized that I have very few pictures of myself w/ my kids. I don't like pictures of myself, but I didn't like pictures of myself 10 years and 4o pounds ago either so I might as well just suck it up and start taking the pictures. The other challenge is that I am the one behind the camera. I leave both of my cameras and my video camera out in a special basket on my kitchen counter so that they are always there, always ready to snap away. I have millions of pictures of my kids. I love to see their little faces through the lens. I have even taken some of my husband.... but there are very, very few of me. I tease my husband that if I died he could marry again and according to the pictures, no one would be any wiser. There wouldn't be any pictures of the "other mother" to put away. That needs to change. I have seen a few other bloggers that participate in self portrait Tuesday... I am not going to do anything as formal as that, but I am inspired to start taking pictures of myself w/ my kids. They see me every day as I am and I want them to have that to look back on.

SO...... and this is for posterity......... Self portrait......... I like the second one b/c she is smiling. She looks SO SMALL here..... I wish you could see her hair because it is so beautiful. Ignore the wicked fern wallpaper. Sadly, this is the BEST wallpaper in the house. The upstairs bathroom has green zebra print paper. ..........

Oh Fizzle... I think that I keep thinking in my mind that I should look like I did when I was 17....

The "What Not To Wear" folks would have a hey day with me......

More face pictures coming up soon....

Where did you get the sling? When I get to the point where it's time to have another baby, I want a sling like that. I've tried baby backpacks, and I don't much like them.

You and Squeaky are adorable!

I got this sling from a place called Kangaroo Kids. They have fleece (mine) and cotton. I am a cheapskate and bought a "seconds" one so I didn't choose the color and fabric. They have REALLY cute fabrics (retro-y or traditional). I am NOT a sling mamma...but this baby is making me carry her all the time......

I think next time I would get the cotton kind w/ a ring...but I like the flannel one for me b/c I have an impressive bustline (loved your last post btw). It was easier to work with. Also, I can just drop her in it and go..not fussing. I even carry cubby in this thing on my hip.... Here is the link....

You've included a few pictures that have you with your family, so don't be too hard on yourself.

In terms of slings, I have seen (because there are some local women here that make them in all sorts of colors) a type of sling/wrap that can hold the baby upright or in a cradle position. I don't have any sort of contact info on me but I'd be willing to find it if anyone would like me to.

OK, I'm sitting here trying to figure out that dang sling of yours. I have one for my baby but for the life of me cannot put him in it correctly!!

wThis one is really easy (I have seen and used the more complicated ones...like Moby... I liked the simple ones that I saw the Africans use...)

This one is literally a piece of fabric that is folded in half--lengthwise...and it has a snap in the back... so the fabric makes a pouch w/ the openings on the top. You put it over one shoulder (like a messenger bag) and then pop the baby in the pouch. It is so easy, and SO COMFORTABLE. You carry the baby's weight all across your back and it works really well for newborns...(cradle or tummy to tummy). Big kids use it like a hip sling. The best part about this sling is that the baby doesn't fall out when you bend over (like the bjorn)...when I unload the dishwasher or the dryer. I highly recommend it...on the website look at cotton pouch.

If you need more info, I will take pictures and e mail them... :-)

Ooops..what I wanted to say was that the best part about this one is that it is easy and fast. I wear this one when I go walking or do long term things....

It is so fast..literally two seconds to put on and get the baby in it. You should get one (btw..it is very similar to the New Native...but this one is adjustable and cheaper). I have heard great things about the Ergo when the baby is older (our babies are the same age....).

Rebecca-Your wee lassie is an absolute doll!
And believe me, I hate being in front of the camera too.
After Quincy is born, it is WW, here I come!! :)

I actually love that program. I did it after I had Lulu and it was pretty easy.

Sadly, I cannot blame the babies for my new weight...just my slowing metabolism and not exercizing...

When are you due?

You are darling.

I miss you!!!

I just realized that I don't know what you look like! If we met on the street I would only know you if you had your kids in tow. :) You'll have to take more without the camera in front of your face. Do you have a timer on that thing?

P.S. I like the wallpaper.

Rebecca-
I am due Dec. 9th. We are getting SO excited to meet her. :)

I had an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. Sadly, none of my kids cared for it. I just recently freecycled it to a good home.

I love seeing the pictures on your blog. Your kids are adorable...even the troll baby pics! We've got a few of those pictures in our house, too and I don't know where they came from because my babies were so so so cute in my mind.

I think you look cute in photos.

And thanks for the sling recommendation. I've been thinking about slinging it with this baby and I'm gathering all the info on what people are using and why they like it.

(I kind of like the wallpaper too...green zebra? That might actually be kind of cool.)

A---I hear great things about the Ergo....

Check out Julies (Rarely Home Mom's) blog and ask her about the Ergo. She lives in your area now and she can give you the scoop (or even sell you one b/c her little Josh will be growing out of it soon).

The 2nd is my favorite too. Totally agree with you that I'm always behind the lens and don't have much of me with my kids. When my 2nd child was born I asked Ben to take a picture of the 2 kids on my lap in the hospital room. I think I looked really good in that picture except only my smiling mouth is showing - the rest of my head was totally cut off.
