Spooooky...

Happy Friday the 13th.

At the (Ignore the) Crazy house we are going to do all kinds of spook-i-licious things. We will carve pumpkins and frost cookies and leave cupcakes on the doorsteps of our neighbors (who are all 1000 years old) and read stories by candlelight before bed. How cool is that? I got that last idea from Design Mom on her really cool blog ( I would link it but I still don't know how...sigh). I love, love, love Halloween and fall in general. I love the new candle smells (time to replace "cotton" and "rainfall" with "sugar cookie" and "apple cinnamon"). I love the decorations (three giant rubbermaid tubs as opposed to my measly one for Christmas). I have already purchased my mini pumpkins, my waxed gourds, my Cinderella pumpkins and ghost pumpkins. We are SET!!!!!!!!!!! My mom and dad always did really fun stuff at the holidays and I am glad that ONE of my kids is finally old enough to remember this stuff. Also, my 19 year old brother is here and I can boss him around and make him wrestle Cubby to the ground when the need arises....

I have enjoyed reading on other people's blogs about the fun traditions that they do at this time of year. I have loved reading the recipe's and general excitement for Fall. What kind of things do you do for Halloween? De-lurk if you need to, but I need more idea's, people. I have creative readers and I am dying to hear what you do so I can add it to the Crazy family traditions....

Happy Friday the 13th!!

The house I mostly grew up in had four very large windows in our front room. They were, happily enough, each the width of butcher paper.
My dad is a great artist/doodler. The first Monday in October he would break out a brand new set of smelly markers (I still remember the sound of the styrofoam slipping out of the sleeve) and tear each of us four kids a length of butcher paper to fit the window. He would then draw an individual monster on each one for us to color. The monsters were sooo cool. We'd hang them in the windows.

On Halloween night he'd take the blade out of the circular saw, dress in his old army greens, and go after the teenagers who were too old to be trick or treating.

He's a great dad.

Here's what I've done this year: buy mini pumpkins and waxed gourds to actually have a centerpiece.

Another gal after my own heart. We go to the same pumpkin patch every year..it is in Half Moon Bay and it is right on the ocean. I love the contrast between the green fields dotted w/ orange and the blu sky and ocean.

I have taken the kids there since Lulu was 6 weeks old, Jacob was 2 weeks old and Nori will be 3 months old... but we take a picture in the same place w/ the same cookie and pumpkins...it is my one "see how they have grown" picture.....

I love the holidays as well and something we do every year is decorate the house and carve pumpkins. Our town is small so we do go house to house trick or treating. It's alot of fun to see our friends and to show off the kids costumes.

I really do want to start doing the boo thing next year once we are settled in a new house. I think putting Halloween gifts on peoples doors would be fun and a nice way to get to know our neighbors. How fun!!

I HEART the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival. But not the traffic getting to/from. Oy. I've been big on wanting to create new traditions now that we're officially 'on our own' for holidays from here on out. I'm going to spy on your comments.

I'm not so much a Halloween girl, but I want you to learn how to link, because it is life-changing. Look at this.

I, too, LOVE Halloween. I do not know why it gives me such a thrill, but it does. I love that the weather is crisp and cool, the leaves are yellows and reds, the pumpkins, the Halloween decorations, the excitment over costumes. I just adore Halloween.

We usually decorate sugar cookies, carve pumpkins, and have chili & cornbread & apple cider for Halloween dinner. Then we take the kids trick-or-treating. Nothing too amazing, but fun, nonetheless.

To me, Halloween is the beginning of all the wonderful fall/winter holidays and traditions. It is an exciting time.
