Happy Turkey Day!!!

Who is hosting? Who is a guest?

We are hosting and guesting so it should be fun. I am in charge of appetizer at the big dinner with the in-laws. I am making my famous cheeseball, lemon herbed goat cheese spread and caramelized onion and blue cheese tart. I had to show some restraint. I love doing appetizers because that is the best part for me. I am not a fan of actual Thanksgiving food (besides the bread and the gravy). It is all about the appetizers for me.

For brunch on Thanksgiving Day we are having: breakfast casserole (the kind that has bread at the bottom, a layer of sausage, a layer of hashbrowns, a layer of cheese and topped w/ sour cream and milk....heaven), ham with cranberry glaze, Brie, orange rolls, dutch crunch rolls (so you can make a ham sandwich if you want), mango chutney and hot chocolate. Then we are going to take a walk around the lake and try, try, try to get family pictures taken. Try is the key word here...........

Hosting brother & his wife & kid. I made rolls & pies today. And by "made", I mean I thawed and baked Rhodes frozen rolls, and baked frozen MC pies.

You are my kid of cook. You are a brave and capeable woman. You have a NEW BABY!! You shouldn't be required to do more than feed him and keep the girls alive and resonably clean! :-)

How are you?

Bek,

I hereby lay down the mantle of Christmas Eve cook and pass it on to you since you will actually be here. I'll heat up the fondue and cut the bread, but you get to work your magic for the rest of the meal...

P.S. I don't know how I got the mantle in the first place... You ned to come home for christmas more often.

I'm hosting/guesting for Thanksgiving. A couple of years ago we got smart and realized with all of Matt's family we have WAY too many for one house (and who wants to clean??) so we (shhh. . .don't tell anyone our secret) reserve the church. Think about it. . .plenty of tables, chairs AND a huge gym for the kiddos to run crazy. . .Actually I think we should feed the kids then throw them in the gym and lock the doors, then the adults can eat in peace. We usually eat then play a little, then a movie, then back to the church for more games and hangin' out--oh, and of course, more eating.

On my list to bring. .
homemade rolls
huge relish tray
texas sheet cake
maybe a pumpkin pie, and I'm also going to bring the See's candies chocolate turkeys my dad sent in the mail. . .who knew that they even made those???

Man, you do it RIGHT!

We're getting together with good friends - bittersweet, it's the family of my dearest friend, who we lost two years ago. It'll be good to see her husband and kids, but just being in her house makes me miss her.

So I'm giving thanks for having known her, and for knowing her family still.

Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Wow...Third Mom... I think about that a lot. I have many dear, dear friends and at some point we are going to loose one of them (or me...). I am so glad that her kids have you to help them remember their mom and honor her. That is a huge job. We even have people that know ALL the detail of "the story" of my kids and how they joined our family. Just in case we aren't around when/if they need to hear it. They are the "keeper of the story".

I am sorry you lost your friend. Have a good time anyway........

2 pumpkin pies
We will be hosting the pre-dinner festivities of shooting skeet off the back of our property.

I think I'd drive all the way back (THROUGH the LA traffic!) to eat your Thanksgiving food. We're going to be guests along with the entire extended family. I just found out ours is being catered. Thanksgiving? Catered? I've had it at home and in a restaurant, but catered is a new one. I can't imagine it will be as good as your's! Have fun!

I'm good. I wonder...when are you going to be near here again??? Soon?

Guesting! And since I'm the knocked up one, there's less to do for me! I brought cranberry relish and cranberry salad. We had a simple, traditional meal made ever so divine by my dad's famous stuffing and from scratch pies.

Oh, and the homemade eggnog was deliiiicious

We cooked here. I have to tell you about my appetizer plate that was hugely successful! We had sliced pears and persimmons with soft cranberry blue cheese, and orange-mint cream cheese, and crackers. The cranberry blue cheese I bought, but the cream cheese I made with fresh chocolate mint from my herb pot and orange zest, 8 oz of cream cheese, and a little milk mixed in to soften it. It was to die for on a cracker with persimmon wedge on top.

Happy belated thanksgiving!

Ana...yum!! I never know what to do with persimmions. H also love walnut blue cheese spread on pears. Heaven..

I ended up making lemon/thyme goat cheese spread. It was pretty good. I would have traded it for some of Azucars dad's stuffing and pie......
