Today....

Lauren "before"

My daughter officially grew up. She has always been my little Lulubug. A happy child that loves to skip and has a halo of white, chicken down hair. Her hair is just like mine, straight on the top layer and curly on the crown and nape of the neck. It is so fine it usually fluffs up around her face. It is WHO she is.

She has been begging me to cut her hair for about a year. She wanted it to her ears. I knew that when we cut it, the curl would be gone. I wasn't ready for that. Last night we finally took the plunge. Besides a trim when she was three, this is her first haircut.

I did not do well.

She sat in the chair and put on a brave face and told me "I know the curls are going to be gone, but its OK Mom. Really". When she started to tear up, she reassured me that her eyes were just watering, she wasn't really crying. I told them to cut it below her shoulders but apparently our stylist heard "cut it as close to the ears as you can with out actually going that short".

She looked SO CUTE, but so grown up. I don't like it. Not because she doesn't look good but because my little girl is gone. She doesn't even look like the same child to me. She looks older. Less delicate. She loves it. She fell asleep last night with the mirror on her bed. She decided that she wanted to look in the mirror until she fell asleep. "I just can't help it Mom. It looks SO CUTE".

I know this is just the first of many baby steps on her journey to being a grown up. But this is the first one that hurts. I was totally fine with her going to school, her first tooth loss, etc. I didn't even care that for the first 3 years of her life she liked her dad, then her grandpa, then her Elmo and THEN me. I am not ready for her not to need me or like me. This is just the beginning of the end.

But she does look cute..................

She looks adorable! And that conversation is so much like the one I had with my daughter.

Oh she's so beautiful!!! How can you stand it?

When my daughter when from long to short she went "Locks of Love" long to short. My husband hated it, but I loved seeing so much more of her cute face.

(p.s. When you have a minute you'll have to check out my post regarding what kind of a haircut experience we had chez moi over the weekend. Let me tell you, it isn't at all as pretty as yours.)

It looks adorable - and there's even some curl left!

Our oldest is wanting her hair cut so she can have bangs again (it's been about 3 years since the last "bang" hair cut). My wife is still in the debate mode.

Oh Lauren! She's so beautiful! What a big girl! From a mother who painfully feels each step, I say you did well!

Happy Birthday soon!

She is adorable... I'm so not ready for that...and you made me bawl. But then I did cry during the previews of Stranger than Fiction...it was the new Will Smith movie preview they were promoting...

She will always need you. And wow! She is cute! I love it. Very 1920s. Fantastic! This is just a window of all the fantastic things to come. Look through that window.

GCQ...in theory I know that is true and I want her to be a happy big girl, but the reality is I want her to always come skipping off the bus, singing a made up song and playing Polly Pockets. :-) This is good baby stepping.

I liked it better when I had a heart of stone.

She looks great! And she will prob want it long again later. When my daughter was 6, she got her hair in a bob to her ears (sooo cute!) and now, at 9, she has it long again.
I know how you feel though; my daughter is 9 now, and I hate how quickly they grow up.
