We just had a medium one. It was a 4.6 (or something). I felt it and one aftershock.
When we lived one town over we used to feel them all the time. In the almost two years that I have been in this apartment, I haven't felt one (which is ironic because we are sitting, literally, a few blocks from a fault).
It's nice to remember we are still in California.

I grew up in the Bay Area, and was there when the big '89 earthquake hit. I was only 8 at the time and it really "shook" me up. (no pun intended) I even coined my own phobia that I called "earthquake sickness" where I would feel phantom earth quakes. My mom even let me stay home a day because of it. I've gotten used to them since then, but that's probably because I haven't lived in CA for nearly 8 years. Glad it wasn't a big one for you and you're all safe.
NOt a big one this time, but I have been here during a few bigger ones (as in, I run to the kids room to get them and get in the closet....)
It is scary for sure. I know that for me whenever I hear a plane going over head (the rumble...) I get panicked for a minute b/c it feels like the beginning of an earthquake...
I felt a big aftershock this morning at about 3:00 AM and it startled me....
Good to hear from you Citymamma1.
Glad you are all ok.
I miss earthquakes. Weird.
This one wasn't that big of one, it was just a jiggler. :-)
I experienced my first real earthquake a few months ago. I thought that there had been a plane fly over and a sonic boom... the windows rattled and the house shook. Scared the crud outta this Idaho girl! I don't know if I'll ever get used to California...
That is what it sounds like to me too.. a plane flying over but then there is always some kind of thud or boom (like a car hit the building or something fell on the roof).
It is scary but you do kind of get used to it. When you get through a bunch of them that AREN"T too big and not much damage happens, you just assume they won't be bad each time....
I felt the earthquake too! Although it kinda just felt like a JOLT rather than the usual rumble of an earthquake. I live within a mile or so from Moffett Field and am used to the loud rumble of the plane engines, so we questioned whether it was an earthquake or not at first.
I know it is REALLY silly of me, but I love earthquakes. Although, I do freak out a little thinking about a "Big One".
I want to move.....
Scary! I remember a friend telling me about watching his bookcase walk across the floor during an earthquake in Singapore.
azucar...you made me think of Shrek 2... when the furniture dance in Fiona's room with that guy named Kyle.
Bek... are ya'll ok?
Citymama...I remember the 89 earthquake... I was 12 or 13... we had just moved to Calif from Ut and it was hilarious....my brother stopped, dropped and rolled and then realized it was a quake. Our pool... rocked so much that the water nearly entered the house... bookcases came crashing down... we had to use the BBQ outside to cook... it was a "welcome to Calif" treat.
Wow, scary stuff! Glad it was a small one!
My cousin and his wife lived in CA years ago, and they had to move because his wife was simply flipped out by the earthquakes. She lived in constant fear, so they finally gave up and moved to Colorado.
I must just have a ton of fat padding me - I've lived in L.A. for three years and not felt a single one of our earthquakes yet. My husband always calls me afterwards (he worked on the 37th floor of an office tower so he felt more) but I never did. It's really amazing how we adjust our brains to cope with the idea of being killed in an earthquake at any time. Really.
