Down Syndrome 101

I have a big long post about Down Syndrome coming up (lucky you).

It is a short FYI for the benefit of friends and family and also to address some questions we have been asked. If you have a question you want me to include or are just curious about, e mail me and I will include it....

I am just polishing it up.....

We also think we have a name for her. I just wanted to name her as soon as possible (after very much NOT being a "name the baby in utero" kind of gal). We are thinking old fashioned and traditional and one that she can easily say........... we have a short list........

Catching up here...

Lauren's comments are hilarious. :)

I am so sorry your Thanksgiving wasn't all it was supposed to be. I've had plenty of stomach flu Thanksgivings. But not this year! Maybe it was because we didn't travel.

Names are so important. Maybe this little child is eager for one ASAP. Can't wait to hear more about her, her name, and what you're learning.

More Thanksgiving comments....
The kids were ANGELS when with grandma! Even overnight! Of course they were knee deep in toys, nothing beautiful to ruin, food galore and plenty of indulgent love. One morning Jacob was being a punk when his dad was up and around. I finally asked D to go downstairs and read (boy was he happy!) and Jacob was terrific...of course he had 3 plastic knives and pile of playdoh and grandma and papa!

Hi Bek, sorry- just finally catching up on everyone. I am so glad to see you posting again, and love seeing your kids, just beautiful!

Looks like a lot is going on in your blessed life, congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope you stay healthy, and all goes well. I know the Lord blesses us, sometimes we cannot see the end of the road, but we know he will walk with us along the way, blessing us, helping us, and loving us. My thoughts and prayers are with you Bek, and I know your an incredible mother! :)

I'm eager to see your name(s)! I had said - from the moment we found out I was pregnant - that I would not name this baby until birth. I've either changed the boys names or wanted to. But this time...I just really, really want to know what this name is going to be, and have it be final. Odd how it changes, isn't it? We'll wait until we know the sex in January, obviously, but the list is short.

Oh, your Thanksgiving sounds awful! I'm so sorry! No barfies at my house until the next day, and it was only twice (caught both times in a bowl).

Lauren cracks me up. My favorite is the Countrywide Loan question.

Names are so tricky. We've had one picked out for if/when we had a girl since we found out we were pregnant with our first (who is now nearly 12). But all of a sudden, I'm getting name-shy. I made the mistake of saying that at Thanksgiving dinner. We were suddenly inundated with name suggestions from my family that were (sorry to say) AWFUL! Every single one of them was trendy and cutsey. I'm more into traditional and classic. At least one of them would NEVER work with our last name, and the one who suggested it couldn't seem to understand why. Sheesh! So I wish you all the luck in the world picking a name for your little one. I'm sure it will be beautiful and perfect for her.

Bek, not much to offer here, except to say we have "L" in our life. She is our s-i-l's little sister, has downs, is a clean freak, cheats at bowling (actually got banned from the Special Olympics...ooops), likes to color, eat goodies, play pranks, and has a great sense of humour. She loves jewelry, pretty hair and thinks swimming is "refreshing". She has had numerous heart surgeries and a couple of strokes, but is alive and kickin' and everyone's favourite relative. She's in her mid fourties now and we couldn't love anyone more. If your sweet baby is half of what "L" is your are in for more love than you'll know what to do with.

All the best to your entire family.
